Area Nordic skiers have been spotted salivating at the sight of termination dust in the Chugach Mountains. “It is almost upon us!” exclaimed one Nordic skier as she shot down a trail on roller skis, a somewhat rabid look in her eyes. When she eventually slowed down for an interview, she continued, “The snow is sloooooooowly creeping down the mountainside! Sooner or later it’s going to hit Hillside, and then Kincaid is right around the corner. Hoo baby, this is my favorite time of year - watching that snowline get lower is such a tease!”
Several other cross-country skiers, all wearing brightly-colored Swix beanies, were also seen salivating at the fresh snow. After cleaning up some drool with a handkerchief, one skier began describing an elaborate waxing ritual that he performs in preparation for every ski season. “Oh, I’m not talking about waxing the skis,” he clarified.
At press time, wild ice skaters were menacingly sharpening their blades at the first sign of freeze-up.
