An update to the Kincaid Park Master Plan includes designs for new restrooms, bike trail connections, and a 1000-foot tall paragliding tower. “Based on public comment, we feel that a 1000-foot tall paragliding tower will really serve the community,” stated a municipality official in a press release. “We heard from runners, bikers, skiers, roller-skiers, disc-golfers, foragers, birders, motorcrossers, even some tourists, and we decided that this tower is the project that will meet the needs of the most groups at once.”
“We’ve all seen paragliders using Flattop as a launch point, but we wanted to give those living in west Anchorage a nearby opportunity to jump off of something high, ride those thermals, and float gently to the ground using a paraglider” continued the official. “While the airport may not be happy with the addition of a 1000-foot tower in their airspace, we made the hard decision to put the needs of the expansive paragliding community first.” The plan also indicates that the Kincaid ski trails will be paved to make a track for Anchorage’s F1 community.
